Sports is set to get its own share from the Freedom Of Information Act (FOI) signed into law by former President Good luck Ebele Jonathan in 2011, according to Dr. Walter.

This was exclusively disclosed to Sports Intelligence after a Round-Table conference held in Lagos for stake holders for the implementation of the FOI Act in the South-West part of Nigeria.

Walter started "A lot of secrecy surround budget for Sports development and implementation in Nigeria and nobody ask questions. The only thing we wake up to hear is that there is no money to pay national team coaches because NFF is broke.

Walter further stated that " Sports is an instrument that unites Nigeria as a whole and cannot be left out in this struggle to ensure that Ministries and Government parastatals are being encouraged to embrace the FOI Act".

He further noted, "nothing unites Nigeria like football, and it is a thing of concern when we read on pages of papers that national team coaches are being owed for several months. No one bothers to ask "what about the monies voted out to the Ministry of Sports, what is the statement of account like and this is bad.

The Minister Of Sports and all those responsible for this must be accountable to the people on how their monies are being used and that is what the FOI Act encourages he added.

Walter is the publisher of an online newspaper Agenda Newspaper, and a Media and Communication Consultant at Justice for all British Council.
