Wenger Grabs Two Golden Eaglet Players For Arsenal



Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has succeeded in getting the duo of Kelechi Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze to the gunners academy in London.

The duo were part of the squad that won the U17 age grade tournament hosted by Chile in 2015, where Nigeria won the FIFA tournament for the first time outside Asia and fifth time in all.

Wenger was caught with the boys alongside former Eagles Skipper and Arsenal player Kanu Nwankwo.

The duo will remain in Arsenal academy till next year, when they will be eighteen and able to sign a valid contract.

Australia Open Final: Kerber Out To Shock Williams As She pursues Her First Grand Slam Title



Angelina Kerber is set to slug it out with Serena Williams in the final of the Australian women category final.

Williams will be seeking her 22nd grand slam, while Kerber will be seeking to win her 1st grand slam final after reaching the quarter final of the French Open in 2012, Semifinal of Wimbledon Open in 2012, and Semifinal of US Open in 2011.

The final of the Australian Open women category will be played on Saturday 30, 2016 at Melbourne City.

Golden Eaglet Victor Osimhen To Join Wolfsburg In 2017



Nigeria's Golden Eaglet striker and winner of the Golden Shoe award at the Chile 2015 U17 football tournament is set to move to Wolfsburg.

Osimhen is expected to join the German giant in 2017 when the season begins, after an agreement was reached between his local academy and Wolfsburg.

He is expected to join the youth academy in Wolfsburg and train with them, while he awaits to break into the main team.

Wolfsburg Director of Sports Klaus Allots said, " We are delighted to have him and it is an opportunity for him to Face the European challenge".

Osimhen was an outstanding player in the Chile 2015 U17 tournament, he scored 10 goals in seven matches, helping Nigeria to win the title and won the Adidas golden shoe and adidas silver ball award.

I Did Not Attempt To Resign -Van Gaal



Manchester United Manager has come out to state that he did not make any attempt to resign after the 1-0 loss to Southampton.

There are speculations going on that the Dutchman tendered his resignation after the defeat, but was told to stay on as manager by club owner.

I did not resign he said, and I will never resign from Manchester United the Dutchman said. I will see to the end of my contract at United he stated.

The Dutchman also stated that "Even when I was in Bayern Munich and Barcelona I go directly to meet club owners and directors, that does not mean I have resigned.

National Stadium Surulere Plans To Host IMSU Alumni Lagos Chapter



One of the leading recreational restaurant spot and bar situated at the National Stadium Surulere Lagos, has taken a bold step to host the IMSU Alumni Lagos Chapter

This is contained in a message communicated to Sports Intelligence through the Alumni's National PRO Mr. Marcel Duru. The meeting will be the association's first meeting for the year.

Topmost to be discussed on the agenda is the "Walk For Life" which is aimed at making members actively take part in physical exercise sometime this year.

Other plans are the the plan of the National president and Lagos state Chapter to ensure that Stars have a stress free journey sometime this year for her homecoming, where issues related to the performance of IMSU at the previous NUGA games will be discussed.

The date is Sunday 31st, 2016 while the time is 4pm at Ojez Restaurant. Imo Stars living in Lagos are expected to come out en masse  and identify with this gathering.

Australian Open: Serena Williams Seeks 22nd Gram Slam Title



Serena Williams has made it through to the final of the 2016 Australian Open after defeating AgnieszkaAgnieszka Radawanska in the semifinal of the tournament.

Williams reached her 26th major final and seventh in Melbourne City after defeating Agneiszka 6-0, 6-4, to reach the final.

The winner of the second semifinal match between Britain's Johanna Konta (47th in the world) and German Angelique Kerber, will have a date with Serena Williams.

Serena Williams will be hoping to win her 22nd Grand slam, irrespective of who emerges as winner in the second semifinal match.

Mosquito-Borne Disease May Scare Visitors Away From Rio De Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games

      

The out-break of Zika virus in Brazil and other parts of the world has become an issue of concern to Brazilian officials as they prepare for hosting of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

It was announced on Sunday night in Rio City's Hall, that Organizers would mount extra inspections around venues in the month before the opening ceremony as Brazil has witnessed cases rising in geometrical progression since the out-break of the Zika virus in Brazil.

Organizers also allay fear that the virus will scare tourists away from the city, as a good number of tourists who had earlier visited Brazil including three Britons, returned back to their countries with Zika, contributing to the spread of the disease.

The Olympic Games is generally known to attract visitors and tourists, but with the out-break of the Zika virus disease, the Rio Olympic Games may experience low turn-out of tourists, for fear that they do not contact the mosquito borne disease.

Russia LOC Appoints University Chancellors to be 2018 FIFA World Cup Volunteer Programme ambassadors

Chancellors from 15 universities have been appointed as Russia 2018 Volunteer Program ambassadors, whose institutions will be hosting Volunteer Centres covering all 11 Host Cities.

Ambassadors for the Volunteer Programme of the 2018 FIFA World Cup™ have been handed the key task of promoting and popularising the competition’s volunteer values among the students of Russian universities. The role has been entrusted to the heads of the universities that will act as bases for selecting and training the volunteers, who will be the driving forces of the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017 and the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.

The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Vitaly Mutko, said: "Hosting the FIFA World Cup is a unique opportunity to give a significant boost to the volunteer movement in Russia. The volunteers will be a uniting force at the competition and much depends on them, including the impressions that fans and players at the World Cup take away from our country and this wonderful event. We now have to prepare tens of thousands of volunteers, who can become the calling card of this huge footballing festival."

Happy Birthday Xavi Hernendez



Today in History January 25,  Marks the birthday of Xavi

Xavi is now approaching the end of a career that will go down as one of the game's greatest. After coming through the ranks at Barcelona, the highly efficient midfielder established his place in the Catalan side’s starting XI and went on to become a club legend, bagging eight La Liga titles, three Spanish Cups, six Spanish Super Cups, four UEFA Champions Leagues, two UEFA Super Cups and two FIFA Club World Cups over a 17-year period. In 2015, he bid farewell to Camp Nou, deciding to see out the remainder of his playing days with Qatari side Al-Sadd. The influential Spaniard appeared at four FIFA World Cups with Spain, emerging victorious at South Africa 2010. He also played at the 1997 FIFA U-17 World Cup, the 1999 FIFA U-20 World Cup, not to mention capturing the 2008 and 2012 UEFA European Championship titles.

Arsenal's Loss To Chelsea, A Blessing To Leicester City



The result of the match between Arsenal and Chelsea could have favoured Chelsea as they move to thirteenth position, but it favoured Leicester more.

Leicester had defeated Stoke City 0-3 on Saturday, going to the top of the table with 47 points and knowing full well that if Arsenal loses to Chelsea on Sunday, they (Leicester) will remain on top.

Chelsea did the needful, defeating Arsenal at Emirate and keeping the hope alive for the team as well as Leicester.

Manchester City are second on the table with 44 points, while Arsenal are also 44 points but remain third position with goal difference giving Manchester City an edge.

Chelsea Break "One Month One Match Win Jinx"



Chelsea have broken the jinx of "One Month One Match Win", after defeating Arsenal at Emirate to crawl to the thirteenth position in the Premiership.

Diego Costa's goal was the only goal of the match, leaving the scoreline at 0-1 in favour of the blues.

The 0-3 win of Chelsea against Crystal Palace was her first league match win of the month of January, while their defeat of Arsenal at Emirate is their second win.

Chelsea have long won one match in each month since the 2015/2016 season started in August 2015.
