The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have announced a N5.9 billion budget for football for the year 2016. This was disclosed and handed over to congressmen at the 71st Annual General Assembly of the Federation.
N1.5 billion was budgeted for CHAN Super Eagles, N369 million for dream team Rio De Janeiro Olympics, N920 million for Super Falcons preparations, qualification and participation in the African Women Championship in Cameroon, N672million for U20 FIFA Women World Cup in New Guinea, N286 million for payment of Coaches salaries.
Others are N651 million for Sand Eagles campaign in the 2016 COPA Lagos Beach Soccer, N620 million for Flying Eagles U20 Cup of nations, while 115 million for grassroots Youth Championship.
It will be recalled that coaches were owed salaries in 2015, before the intervention of the Minister of Sports who mandated that salaries of all coaches be paid. The FOI Act lauds the official release of the 2016 Budget, but still awaits the actual expenditure for the year ending 2015.
